Four-legged friends are family and we know that here at Dunes Realty! Offering both dog-friendly Garden City Beach and Surfside Beach vacation rentals, we invite pups and their families to fully enjoy life on the South Strand! But before you load your pup into the car, check out our guide to the best dog-friendly parks and rentals!

Dog-Friendly Parks on the South Strand

Huntington Beach State Park

Huntington Beach State Park is dog-friendly all year long. Dogs are permitted on the beach at the south side of the park but must remain on a leash at all times. You and your dog can also enjoy miles of hiking trails, lookout for a variety of species of birds, and explore the stunning scenery of the park.

Myrtle Beach State Park

For even more outdoor adventure, Myrtle Beach State Park is another dog-friendly destination that allows leashed dogs to explore the trails with their owners. Dogs are not allowed on the beaches between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM however you could go for an early morning walk on the beach or explore the beach after sunset!

Surfside Beach Bark Park

Open from sunrise to sunset, the Surfside Beach Bark Park is the perfect place to let your pup run and play with other dogs! If your dog needs an energy release, there is no better place to take them for an afternoon of fun.

Freeway Park in Murrell's Inlet

A Dog Ways Inn in Murrell's Inlet is home to Freeway Park, a 3-acre fenced dog park that offers plenty of fun for four-legged friends. Inside the park, the pups can run and roam within the large fenced-in area as well as enjoy a clean pond that is stocked with fish. Four-legged visitors must be registered at A Dog Ways Inn, have proof of up-to-date vaccinations, and pay a fee to enter the park. Throw a ball and get your pup's energy out before you grab a bite to eat at the Barking Dogs Tavern!

What to Bring For Your Pup on a South Strand Beach Vacation

Although it may seem intuitive on what you need to pack for a pup to come to the beach (dog food, treats, etc.) there are a few items you may not think of when staying in a dog-friendly Garden City Beach or Surfside beach vacation rental. When your pup arrives at the home, you need to make sure that he has a comfy place to lay his head, so be sure to bring along a dog bed or pad that they like to sleep on. Please keep dogs off of furniture unless you have brought a sheet or blanket to protect them from any dog hair. Don't forget to bring some baggies to dispose of any waste while at the vacation rental or out exploring the parks and attractions of the South Strand!

If this is your pup's first trip to the beach, be mindful that just as we get hot under the sun, so does your pup! Bring a travel water dish and plenty of water with you to the beach to make sure everyone stays hydrated. Consider bringing an umbrella to the beach to offer a place of shade out of the sun. Sand can become very hot so also consider booties to protect your dog's paws. And if your pup isn't the most confident swimmer, a life vest with a handle is always a good idea to ensure that they can play in the surf safely!
