Locals Guide to Garden City, Surfside Beach, and Murrells Inlet, South Carolina
Life along the South Strand
Every place has its own unique character, and nowhere is that more evident than the South Strand. As the southern leg of the Grand Strand of South Carolina, the South Strand consists of three main communities; Surfside Beach, Garden City Beach, and Murrells Inlet. This beautiful stretch of coastal landscape consists of 7 miles of pristine beaches, 5 miles of saltwater inlet and marshland, freshwater lakes, the Intracoastal Waterway and deep water access to the Atlantic Ocean.
With this much nature as its backdrop, it’s easy to see why thousands of visitors return to this area year after year. And still easier to see why some want to make their vacation last a lifetime by buying a home of their own.
As a more laidback, “shabby chic” alternative to the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach (that’s just north of the South Strand), this area offers the choice of dozens of restaurants and shopping venues, watersports, entertainment venues such as miniature golf and a water park, world-class boating and fishing both near and far, award-winning golf, and of course the area’s biggest attraction: the beach.
The beaches of the South Strand just feel more secluded with less crowds and less high-rise resorts and hotels to crowd the skyline. It’s just a more inviting place to be, both in atmosphere and attitude. But don’t forget, the towns of the South Strand are only a few miles away from the high energy entertainment of Myrtle Beach, so the entire Grand Strand is the perfect mix of adventure and solitude.
